Bangalore, India, 3rd August, 2021 - Gastronomy reflects the culture, heritage, traditions and sense of community of different people. It is a way of promoting understanding among different communities and of bringing people and traditions closer. Gastronomy tourism is also an essential protector of cultural heritage, and the sector helps create opportunities, including jobs, most notably in rural destinations.

The webinar titled “Gastronomy Tourism” was hosted by PATA India Christ University Student Chapter on the 3rd of August, 2021. The Guest Speaker for the webinar was Mr Sandeep Talwar. The webinar majorly focused on Culinary and Gastronomy Tourism, gastronomy being an art of food and culture and, focusing on the difference between gastronomy and cuisine.

Mr Sandeep Talwar, CEO, TravDek, gave us many insights on cuisine culture in different countries. He emphasised how food can act as a binding force across cultures. In the travel industry, gastronomy has flourished, and many new paths are being blazed in the direction of varied cuisines

Gastronomy is an art of food, and it all comes down to selecting the best of spices and indulging in the celebration of cooking various cuisines across cultures. It’s a new form of cultural tourism that seeks to satisfy the demand of a market segment related to the supply of food products.

The webinar concluded with a Question and Answer session; multiple questions were asked by the students. It was also mentioned by Mr Sandeep Talwar, that destinations and tourism companies had realised the importance of gastronomy to diversify tourism and stimulate local, regional and national economic development.

The webinar was an informative session that exposed us to a brand-new concept and expanded our knowledge of the culinary business and its role in tourism. As a result, we can infer that gastronomy is an important element of a journey, but it is more than just eating or feeding; it also means immersing oneself in the culture of the destination.
